Randy is a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County. He graduated from Matoaca High School in Chesterfield in 1980. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the College of William and Mary in 1984 and then earned his law degree from William and Mary in 1993. From 1984 to 1990, Randy taught English and Government at Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County and coached High School football. He began his legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in the Chesterfield County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in 1993. Randy left the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to enter private practice with Gordon, Dodson, Gordon & Rowlett in 1998. Randy is engaged in the general practice of law, but he focuses on criminal law, personal injury and estate planning and administration. Randy has tried a number of serious criminal cases and complex civil cases. 

Randy is active in the community where he has served as Adjunct Faculty of the University of Richmond since 1995. He teaches criminal law in their undergraduate school and trial skills in the University of Richmond law school. He previously taught legal writing and legal research at J. Sargeant Community College. Randy has also served as an instructor at the Chesterfield Police Academy. 

Randy is a Past President of the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Bar Association, and he is a member and past Chair of the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Community Criminal Justice Board. Randy also serves on various local committees in the Chesterfield Courts.

Randy is an active member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Randy enjoys yard work, reading about American History, and traveling with his family.
